Enter the TV Maven Strategy for Proper DVRing:
Step 1: Figure out which shows you need to watch the night they premiere (think shows like Breaking Bad and Walking Dead that will get spoiled otherwise). Those get recorded first.
Step 2: Learn which shows have repeat airings the same night. Never DVR a Bravo show when it first airs. Record it when it re-airs later that same night so that it won't conflict with your other prime-time shows.
Step 3: Break down your viewing options. Will the show be available On Demand or on Hulu? If it's on Hulu, is it web only? If so, are you okay with watching it on a smaller screen? Decide which shows you want to watch sooner rather than later.
I'm telling you, you need a strategy. I end up watching TV shows on Hulu that I care the least about or that I can pay the least attention to. Because let's be honest, sometimes I watch them while at work. And that means I can only half pay attention to what's going on. Glee and Castle are examples of that. (Note: When choosing Hulu shows, make sure you understand the potential time commitment. Exhibit A: Devious Maids. It's a web-only Hulu show, so if I start it on my computer, I better be ready to finish it on my computer. No one likes the super slow fast forward -- when it's even available -- on On Demand, so you either want to start and finish it on your computer, or commit to start it in the first place On Demand.)
How full is your DVR?
